The Government, and by extension the entire country, is currently faced with a $2 billion dilemma as a result of the roll back of the proposed property tax increases, which were announced by Finance Minster, Hon. Audley Shaw, who will either have to increase taxes on something else or chop expenses by a similar amount.

But that should not be the real discussion at this time, what we should be discussing is a “Living within one means philosophy”, that examines what is affordable and what is not at a particular time and having this approach entrenched in our constitution.

It cannot be that because free health care and so called free education is popular, despite our inability to afford, successive Governments continue to penalize the population, this cannot be just, no wonder we continue to suffer the indignity of this International Monetary Fund (IMF) economic supervision, we should all be embarrassed as it is now obvious that we cannot manage on our own for the benefit of our society.
