As We See It

As has been our tradition here in Jamaica for centuries, Easter represents one of the most Holy periods on the calendar, when Christians come together to fellowship in a spirit of sacrifice and in effect setting an example for a troubled society and world at large.

Part of the tradition in Jamaica is the consumption of large quantities of bun and cheese, which cannot be traced to any religious origin, but to some extent to the cultural practice of not lighting the family stove until one o’clock on Good Friday and thus a slice of bun and cheese has become a practical solution to the morning hunger.

In a world now overtaken by technology, it is important that traditions are preserved, especially those that contribute to the value of family, even as competing forces engage in activities in this period, which have no relevance to our culture and are frowned upon by the majority of Jamaicans.  We wish you a Holy Easter!
