As We See It >>

On Sunday, January 1, 2017, the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau issued a red alert for smog in twenty-five cities in China, which triggered the closure of factories, schools, highways and construction sites, as the World Health Organisation’s safe level for pollution at 25 micrograms per cubic metre was exceeded by 375 micrograms per cubic metre, attributable to China’s reliance on coal for energy and factory production.

Would we want this in Jamaica ever? But that’s not all, it is reported that researchers at Germany’s Max Planck Institute have estimated that smog has led to 1.4 million premature deaths per year in China, while the Berkeley Earth Group in California, USA, puts the figure at 1.6 million premature deaths per year.

So fellow Jamaicans, we need to stand together to prevent even the thought of ever using coal for energy at Alpart or anywhere else in Jamaica, or even the Caribbean, for that matter, never mind the so-called clean coal garbage!
