Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Lay Magistrates' Association of Jamaica, Manchester Chapter's on Thursday, June 19th in Mandeville, the CEO of The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), Ms. Jennifer McDonald said that PICA regards the Lay Magistrates as critical partners in their operation as they interact directly with their clients, who rely on them to help them to access their services, while adding that they rely on the Lay Magistrates to ensure that documents are properly filled out.

| MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY SEEKS PRIVATE SECTOR SUPPORT |

Addressing the quarterly Parish Chambers’ meeting in Mandeville recently, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Hon. Arthur Williams said that when the Government took office in September, shortly thereafter came a spike in crime at a time when former Commissioner Lucius Thomas had just demitted office and things returned to normality during the month of December and onwards, then came the month of May. “There were 196 reported murders in May, which is the highest monthly figure ever in our history and over the five months, May was an extraordinary month and one that terrified the nation,” Minister Williams said.

Northern Caribbean University’s 2007 Imagine Cup Software Design Team has secured copy right registration for its revolutionary software, CADI- Computer Aided Distance Instructions. Team ICAD, which comprises Imran Allie, Conroy Smith, Ayson Baxter and Damion Mitchell, placed third in the world last year after developing and showcasing CADI in the Imagine Cup competition put on by Microsoft.
