LAMP Official Cites Success of Titling Initiative |

Senior Land Tenure Specialist with the Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP), Lisa Campbell, has said that the land titling initiative is helping persons to own their homes.
Ms. Campbell, who was addressing the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Mandeville at the Golf View Hotel recently, said that the programme, geared to fast tracking the processing of land titles, was expanding the housing stock in many communities. “If you look at the number of houses that are going up in the communities that we are operating in, it results from the fact that we have helped persons with their titles and that has given them the opportunity to benefit from NHT and other mortgage institutions,” she told the meeting. |

Manchester Strikes Gold Again |

Food Security through Diversification, Technology and Risk Management’, was the theme for the Manchester - Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) presentation at Denbigh 2010.
Mr. Donald Robinson, Parish Agricultural Manager for RADA, Mr. Neville Burrell, Parish Manager for Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) and the President and Executives of the JAS’s Association of Branches Societies were at the helm of a vibrant and energetic team, whose concept for this year’s pavilion was nothing short of outstanding, winning them the second prize overall. Manchester took home the Rudolph Burke trophy for the Pavilion and eight sectional prize trophies under the categories: Youth in Agriculture, Adaptable Technology, Community Involvement, Marketing Potential, Agro-Business Agro Processing, Outstanding Feature, Initiative and Resourcefulness, Educational Input with special focus on sweet and Irish potato production. The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission in collaboration with Jamvybz Entertainment brought the town of Mandeville to life on Independence Day, making it an event to remember. The day’s activities started with the flag raising ceremony which was witnessed by scores of residents, under the theme, “I beleive in Jamaica”. The guest speaker was Rev. Robert Patmore who reminded his audience of the true meaning of independence, while reflecting on our national heroes who sacrificed to make it possible. TRANSPORT AUTHORITY STAGES CONSULTATION |

The Transport Authority recently hosted the Mandeville leg of a series of public consultations on the service provided by public passenger vehicles and commercial carriers in Jamaica, aimed at facilitating discourse between the Authority and the public they serve in an effort to improve the customer service level of the organization and within the public transportation sector.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Transport Authority Board, Mr. George Johnson, informed the gathering that the Transport Authority has been organizing the stakeholders and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the taxi associations and came up with a code of ethics and operational standards, which has resulted in an increase in road activities and the number of motor vehicles examined and made a special appeal to the passengers to use the registered taxis, “Stick to the red plate, the marked vehicles and ensure that drivers have their badges,” he said.
